*** STARLORD PLANETS AND BASES ***
There are three basic types of participants in STARLORD. First there is
the Empire, the side that you play, all of whose installations and pieces
are represented on the viewing screen and map by green tokens. The other
participants are the Rebels, whose installations are represented in red,
and the so-called "Neutral" planets and bases, represented in yellow.
A planet, no matter whose side it represents, is a circle occupying one
space unit with a black center. The color of the circle itself denotes
which side is being played. Bases are similar to planets, except that
their center is the same color as the circle itself.
Any installation represented in green on the grid is friendly to the
Empire, and you may dock your ship there for the nominal 10 E/C unit
fee, while any installation represented in red is an enemy, and you
may not dock there.
"Neutral" installations are a little trickier. These fall into two ca-
tegories, those who have friendly leanings toward the Empire and those
who do not. If your "Local Area Map" is operational, you should deter-
mine the status of any yellow installation before approaching it. If
you even come within firing range of a neutral planet or base that is
unfriendly to the Empire you stand a chance of being fired upon. If
you attempt to dock with one, you will almost certainly be fired upon.
Neutral planets are not to be confused with stars, which are also yel-
low circles but are smaller than planets (in representation only).
Planets and bases are equipped with shields, commlink, torpedoes, and
and beam weapons. These, naturally, are in much greater concentration
than on ships. A fully operational and undamaged planet will be
equipped with ten times the strength of these items as a ship, whereas
a similarly operational base will be equipped with fifty times the
power to be found aboard a vessel of any type.
The ultimate challenge of STARLORD is to convert, by any available
means, all of the planets and bases of a given sector to installations
friendly to the Empire. This can be done by defeating installations
in battle so that they
a) surrender and become friendly neutral
installations,
b) are captured and become Imperial Vassals, or
c) are destroyed.
